 Field Report announces debut album

Five years ago, Wisconsin folk outfit DeYarmond Edison disbanded, with most of its members going on to find success as Bon Iver and Megafaun. Most, that is, save for one Chris Porterfield. Now, under the handle Field Report, Porterfield has finally readied his self-titled debut for a September 11th release through Partisan Records.

After carefully crafting his own songs over those five years, Field Report decided to enter the studio in the fall of 2011 when his old bandmate Justin Vernon came through Milwaukee with Bon Iver. Vernon offered use of his recording space to Porterfield and his band. “We were particularly interested in recording at his studio (April Base) because of the large live room,” Porterfield says. “We wanted to capture the sound of a band in a moment.” Engineer Beau Sorenson and producer Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Uncle Tupelo) rounded out the effort, resulting in ten “crafty, lyrical, and poignant” tracks. As an early preview, stream the album cut “Fergus Falls” below (another track, “Taking Alcatraz”, can be heard in our post from April).

In anticipation of their debut, Field Report (who recently toured with Megafaun – keeping it all in the fam) will play dates with Emmylou Harris and Counting Crows this summer. Check out the full docket below.
