kidkoala Kid Koala announces new album: 12 Bit Blues

Following the release of his latest graphic novel, not to mention a recent foray into microbrewing, Canadian DJ Kid Koala will put out a new solo album on September 17th via Ninja Tune. 12 Bit Blues is a self-described “blues turntable” record, with Koala (real name Eric San) using a E-mu SP-1200 sampler to record each track over the course of three days. You can sample snippets of all 12 tracks at Ninja Tune’s website.

In describing the project’s aim and origin, San said in a statement, “Being a DJ and a record collector, I started drawing all of these lines backwards from the music I was into as a teenager and was like, ‘Wow, all of this stuff correlates to the blues’ and I got really heavy into it. So much so that I decided to do an actual turntable blues record, whatever that means.”

The album will be available digitally and in a CD/LP set, which includes a “cardboard, hand powered turntable kit.” Check out the tracklist below.
