AbdeCaf is the alphabet-inverting recording and performing moniker of 20-year-old Miami-based, Ukrainian-born producer Rostislav “Steve” Vaynshtok. After the breakup of former experimental metal outfit Fight Like Animals, Vaynshtok went rogue as AbdeCaf, making beats along the lines of influences SBTRKT, Balam Acab, and Clams Casino. His dreamy analog-emulating atmosphere paid off with AbdeCaf’s debut Unravel EP earlier this year, which caught Diplo’s attention and earned him a spot opening for Com Truise. Now, he’s gearing up for the release of Unravel’s fittingly titled follow-up Rebuild, which will see release this summer.

As a first listen off the new EP, AbdeCaf brings us “Old Flame”, which samples Drake and The Weeknd’s “Crew Love”. Vaynshtok’s Yamaha CSX1 edges out Abel Tesfaye’s bromantic croon with rattletrap beats and dance floor-ready keys more bumpin’ than brooding. Stream it below.
