Sub Pop Records’ latest signee is Toronto post-punk trio METZ, who will release their self-titled debut LP on October 9th. The 11-track effort was produced by the band and recorded by Graham Walsh (of Holy Fuck) at Barn Window and Basketball 4 Life. The lead single, “Headache”, is available for download below.
The track exemplifies the band’s approach to noise rock, filling every inch of available space with jagged-sounding drones and heaps of uncomplicated feedback. But their collective sound goes deeper than that simple genre label; the song’s slashing guitars and unceasing bass add structure to the madness and help ensure emotion and connectivity are always in the forefront.
Originally from Ottawa, METZ is comprised of Alex Edkins, Hayden Menzies, and Chris Slorach, who have been playing together since 2009. The group made a name for themselves back home with a series of well-recived seven-inches and a reportedly chaotic live show.
And speaking of gigs, the band will tour in support of the record this fall. Check out their upcoming schedule just beneath the album tracklist.
