New Music: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Bag of Bones

As previously reportedThe Jon Spencer Blues Explosion returns with their first album in eight years, Meat and Bone, on September 18th via Boombox/Mom+Pop.  Already we’ve heard the opening cut, “Black Mold”, and now Rolling Stone has its following track, “Bag of Bones”.

It’s a dirty, mud-on-the-boots stomper that finds Spencer swinging between a scummy Mick Jagger and a far more friendlier Iggy Pop. “I’ve always felt like Blues Explosion was much more innovative, much more creative, much more punk in a way, and more confrontational,” Spencer told the publication. “So I think that’s a little bit of what the song is about.”

To support the release, the band will hit up a number of cities across America this fall, following a busy summer at festivals overseas. Consult the album’s tracklist and the band’s forthcoming itinerary below.
