Stream: ?uestloves Beastie Boys tribute medley

The Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch would have turned 48 on August 5th. As a belated birthday celebration of the MC’s iconic life and career, The Roots’ ?uestlove has posted a demo version of the Beasties medley the Roots performed at the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This rough version features bits and pieces of “The New Style”, “No Sleep till Brooklyn”, “So What’cha Want”, “Sabotage”, and even the “drum roll from ‘Shake Your Rump’ to acknowledge their best album Paul’s Boutique.” Not bad for a so-called “quickie lunch break demo.” Stream it below.

Quest’s lunch breaks are about to get even busier with the announcement that he’s relaunching The Roots’ Okayplayer Records after an eight-year hiatus. As Billboard reports, the digital-only imprint’s first two releases will be rapper-producer Danny!’s Payback on September 25th and an instrumental breakbeat album by recording engineer Young Guru entitled Essentials Vol. 1 on October 9th.

The label originally launched in 1999, working with the likes of Common, Mos Def, and D’Angelo. In lieu of releasing records, the Okayplayer brand has expanded into Okayplayer TV, a production company, and several related websites.
