Later… with Jools Holland, the UK’s shining example of a performance-based music television program that does not require Simon Cowell or the dude from Maroon 5 in order to be successful, returns for its 41st series this week. And boy, is ol’ Jools starting off with a bang. Tonight’s premiere included performances by local heroes The xx and Muse, along with The Beach Boys, aka the authors behind the greatest song ever.
The xx continued to support their new album Coexist with a performance of the single “Angels”. Muse got to play two tracks off their forthcoming LP The 2nd Law in “Madness” and “Panic Station”. And The Beach Boys (with the original lineup still intact) tackled the title track to their reunion album, “That’s Why God Made The Radio”, plus the 20/20 classic “Do It Again”.
Additional performances from all three bands will be aired on an extended episode of Later… this Friday. We’ll of course post the video replays of those once they appear.
