Coheed and Cambria’s latest LP, The Afterman: Ascension, attempts to add more organic emotional elements to the band’s long-running sci-fi saga The Amory Wars. Nowhere is that dynamic more apparent or successful than in the song and video for the title track. Here, Meri Amory, wife of Sirius Amory (aka “The Afterman”), watches as her husband’s spaceship explodes and crashes into sea. And while their inevitable reunion seems as formulaic as a Nicholas Sparks novel, the one-two punch of gentle heartache and swelling affirmation of love’s power comes after they’re safely in each other’s arms.
