Louisville composer Matthew Cooper, aka Eluvium, has dropped another track off his forthcoming double-album, Nightmare Ending, due out May 14th via Temporary Residence. Following recent ear winner “Don’t Get Any Closer”, “Envenom Mettle” feels like the pallbearer at the world’s most elegant funeral. Heart scorching layers of piano puncture violent, tearjerking guitar work and samples courtesy of Explosions in the Sky’s Mark T. Smith.

“Mark and I have been friends for a long time,” Cooper states in a press release. “He is an extremely talented and creative person who explores sounds from many different angles. Having him involved on this was, quite simply, a lot of fun.”

Fun or not, it’s post-rock at its finest, which makes sense why Cooper and Smith are labelmates. Stream it below.
