When Lemmy, lead singer of Motörhead, turned 50 in December of 1995, he held a birthday party at Hollywood’s famous Whiskey a Go Go. Among those invited were super Lemmy fans Metallica, who dressed up in black wigs and aviators and play about six Motörhead songs as The Lemmys for the speed-metal champion. Below is some previously unreleased pro-am footage of the first song they played for the night, “Overkill”, uploaded by the folks at Whiskey a Go Go.

Metallica would go on to record “Overkill” and three more Motörhead songs for inclusion on the flip-side of the “Hero of the Day” single, all four of which appear on the 1999 compilation-esque LP Garage Inc.
