Just two days ago, we proclaimed Flying Lotus “the most prolific musician alive”, detailing his Thundercat jazz collaboration, his Aqua Teen Hunger Force theme song, his North American tour, and his other 4,173 projects. Well, here’s yet another item to add to that ever-growing list: soundtrack for an independent film produced by Jay-Z. Getting out of bed still looking impossible, friend?
Flying Lotus will lend his music to a new movie titled An Oversimplification of Her Beauty. Directed by Terence Nance and executive produced by Hov alongside journalist Dream Hampton, comic Wyatt Cenac, and actress Joe Bryant, it follows a man as he contemplates the meaning of love and attraction after a woman stands him up.
On the film’s blog, Nance explains how his fandom led to FlyLo’s involvement: “I was trying to meet Flying Lotus, my favourite musician right now. Myself, my brother Nelson and one of my DP’s Matthew Bray were successful. It was great connecting with let me re-iterate my favourite musician since Stevie Wonder.”
An Oversimplification of Her Beauty opens on April 26th. Watch the trailer below, which features the Cosmogramma track “Computer Face // Pure Being.”
