Last December, indie-rap legends Cannibal Ox resurfaced for their first show in seven years, performing at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory. At the time, the Harlem duo of Vast Aire and Vordul Mega didn’t mention any solid plans for new music, but this year’s a whole different story.
On April 16th, following to a successful Kickstarter run, they’ll release their first piece of new material in 13 years (!) in the form of the maxi-single “Gotham”, which also includes the tracks “Gases in Hell (Inhale)” and “Psalm 82”. Produced by Bill Cosmiq, all three sound steeped in murky, and sometimes even menacing, waters. Listen to them below.
The pair are currently working on a sophomore album and followup to their 2001 classic The Cold Vein, which they say will come out sometime in 2013. Aire commented, “We never broke up, but the timing is now right for a new Cannibal Ox LP. Iron Galaxy Records is about to take over.”
