Alt-J is a Mercury Prize-winning indie-pop band about to head out on a massive tour with stops at damn near every festival in the western world. Paramore is a Fueled by Ramen pop-rock group about to release their first new album after very publicly losing two original members. When the latter stopped by BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge to promote the new record, they delivered a folk-leaning acoustic rendition of the former’s single “Matilda”. Now, none of that seems to really add up, but it for reals went down, and it ended up working pretty darn fine. The proof is down below.
And here’s Alt-J’s original for comparison’s sake.
Interesting end note: This isn’t the first time Paramore performed an out-of-character cover for Radio 1. When they were there in 2010, they did a rendition of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody”.
