Similar to “Never Wanted Your Love”, the first single we heard from She & Him’s forthcoming album Volume 3, “I Could’ve Been Your Girl” carries a heart full of bruised emotions without actually sounding like it. Even as strings cry and sigh alongside Zooey Deschanel’s wistful words (“I’d send you the pillow that I cried on”), the track shines and sways like another one of the duo’s signature pleasing retro-pop cuts. Volume 3 arrives May 7th via Merge. In support of the release, M. Ward and Deschanel will hit the road together beginning in June.
