beachdaytriptrapcover Stream Beach Days rollicking new single, Boys

Beach Day is hardly the average surf rock band. For one, they hail from the retirement Mecca of the World, AKA Hollywood, Florida, which is about as culturally far away from the beaches of SoCal as it is geographically. Rather than catching waves on their boards, the trio (guitarist/vocalist Kimmy Drake, drummer Skyler Black, and bassist Natalie Smallish) can often be found biking around the boardwalk. Plus, they’re pretty much the only true surf act signed to Kanine Records, who released the band’s sophomore 7″, Walking on the Streets, back in November. Did we mention their music also appears in a Victoria’s Secrets ad?

However, where the distinction is most noticeable is in the music itself, specifically “Boys”, the latest single from their forthcoming debut record, Trip Trap Attack (try saying that four times fast). On the surface, the jangly guitar, concussive drums, and overly-sunny disposition sound like your standard surf fare. But the inclusion of Ronettes-inspired harmonies, a sweltering organ line, and a frenetic punk pacing Ã  la the Black Lips infuses the tune with a truly distinct air of youthful rebelliousness and manic playfulness. If you love the beach but hate swimming, stream this at your next beach blanket bingo.

Trip Trap Attack is due out June 18th via Kanine. The trio is currently on tour in support of the LP, and you can consult their full schedule following the album tracklist.
