In an effort to resolve her recent tax issues, Lauryn Hill has signed a record contract with Sony, and plans to release five new songs in advance of a full-length studio effort. On Saturday, she
shared was forced to release the first of these new songs in the form “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)”.
As Hill explained in a note posted on Tumblr:
Here is a link to a piece that I was required to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music but the message is still there. In light of Wednesdays tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing todays unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!
The track — which hears Hill spitfire her disdain for corporations, politics, et al. — is available now on iTunes.
