Yours Truly’s “Songs From Scratch” is something of a musical matchmaker for rising names in hip-hop and electronic. Already the series has brought together Danny Brown and AraabmuzikAngel Haze and Lunice, and Jeremih and Shlohmo. Now, comes a collaboration between Chicago emcee Chance The Rapper and Los Angeles producer Nosaj Thing. Their joint effort “Paranoia” is actually the second half of Chance’s “Pusha Man”, off his must-download Acid Rap mixtape.

Like any good collaboration, the duo work in perfect harmony: Nosaj’s beat is flippant and scattered, switching from dreamy synth-drum combo to a more menacing deluge of effects, which Chance supplies with extra-frantic rhymes (“Blunt on my lips/Sun in my eyes/And my gun on my hip/Paranoia on my mind got my mind on the fritz”).

Also, watch a making of- video where Nosaj discusses his approach to beat-making and Chance muses on his obsessive direction with recording.
