As Yahoo! Sports reports, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports is set to add another superstar athlete to his burgeoning roster of clients. Having already landed deals to represent New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, female basketball player Skylar Diggins, and New York Jets QB Geno Smith, Roc Nation Sports is now expected to sign Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant.
A league source told Yahoo!, “[Durant] doesn’t want a traditional NBA agent anymore. He wants Jay-Z to handle his branding. He had a chance to be with his idol and couldn’t say no.”
However, before Jay-Z can officially sign Durant, he must sell his small ownership shake in the Brooklyn Nets, as NBA rules mandate that no one individual affiliated with a player representation company can have an ownership stake with an NBA team. While Jay-Z has begun the process of divesting his ownership, he has yet to be certified as an NBA agent.
