Listen to Sampha’s hypnotic new single, “Without”

on July 08, 2013, 1:35pm

Sampha already has quite the impressive musical resume, having worked with the likes of Drake, Jessie Ware and SBTRKT (see here, here and here, respectively). But now, the London R&B singer is ready to step out into the spotlight with his first solo EP, Dual, due out July 29th on Young Turks. The first single, “Without”, is undoubtedly all Sampha — his milky, soothing and silken vocals a seductive front-and-center instrument interwoven through feverish pitter-patters of percussion and an unrelenting hypnotic buzz.

In a recent interview with Pitchfork, he explained the story behind the song: “I wrote it a few nights after I met someone I liked. I was just thinking about my own natural way of one-night stands: always wanting to be more attached to something. I’m not very good at detaching myself.”
