From FIDLARs cramped, sweaty performance at Backspace to Charles Bradleys soulful set at Crystal Ballroom, music conquered Portland, OR last weekend amidst this year’s MusicFest NW. Over six days, the Pacific Northwest’s SXSW had music lovers zipping all over the city to catch exclusive, intimate sets by Animal Collective, Baroness, Deep Sea Diver, Young the Giant, and many, many more.
Highlights included Titus Andronicus surprisingly energetic mid-afternoon set, Angel Olsens spell-binding appearance at the Old Church, and Fred Armisens snarky Ian Rubbish character at the Crystal Ballroom. Bang, pop, and slam — the summer festival season imploded all at once. Now it’s time for Portland to recover before it comes around again next year.
