Last night, Madonna released her new short film, secretprojectrevolution, for free through BitTorrent. The 17-minute piece, which marks the beginning of her new Art for Freedom initiative, is billed as an “examination of our private prisons. It questions what we do, how we do it and how we treat others, and our collective thought patterns,” or how “the power of art can lead to peace.” It’s a fitting message, especially in the wake of the recent news involving Pussy Riot.
Keeping with the film’s theme, Madonna staged an art piece last night at NYC’s Gagosian Gallery, where she performed Elliott Smith’s “Between the Bars” while being dragged across the floor by two men dressed as prison guards. Watch footage of the performance below (via Pitchfork).
