Watch Paul McCartney’s beautiful, “impromptu” performance of “New”

I don’t know if this is genuine or not, and I don’t care. During a recent concert in Regina, SK, cameras caught Paul McCartney backstage humming his “New” single as he fixed his boyish flop of hair in the mirror. Then, through a serendipitous turn of events (or great marketing, if you’re dead inside), McCartney was suddenly joined by his band for an “impromptu” acoustic performance. Whether spontaneous or calculated, there’s something magical and almost life-affirming about seeing McCartney and Co. sing and clap and smile their way through a barbershop-esque rendition of the song. Feel all sorts of glee and joy when you click play below. Oh, and someone please start following Sir Paul around everywhere.

New, the album, will be released in the US on October 15th (and elsewhere on the 14th).

McCartney recorded with several other new collaborators for the album, including Ethan Johns; Paul Epworth (Adele); and Giles Martin, the son of classic Beatles producer George Martin. According to a press release, additional album details will be revealed in the coming weeks.
