The Shat is back. On October 8th, William Shatner will release his brand new LP, Ponder the Mystery, and get this: it’s a prog-rock concept album.

“Following a man in despair through the setting sun, twilight and finally darkness, and in the process, regains his joy of life,” Ponder the Mystery is distinct amongst Shatner’s already unique discography in that it’s his first collection of entirely original material, and it’s, ya know, a prog rock album. The record itself boasts a cadre of guest spots from prog rock and fusion icons: Rick Wakeman (Yes), Robby Krieger (The Doors), George Duke (Frank Zappa), Steve Vai (Zappa, David Lee Roth), Zoot Horn Rollo (Captain Beefheart, The Magic Band), multi-instrumentalist Edgar Winter, country artist Vince Gill, jazz saxophonist Dave Koz, and jazz guitarist Al Di Meola.

Better yet, Shatner will be performing the entire album live with the help of prog rock outfit Circa:, featuring Ponder the Mystery co-writer/producer Billy Sherwood and Tony Kaye, both former members of the legendary Yes. The trio of performances take place three sequential nights around the L.A. area: October 23rd in Hermosa, 24th in Agoura, and the 25th in San Juan Capistrano.
