Listen: Lorde’s “Royals” mashed up with M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes”

on October 22, 2013, 1:53pm

Lorde: rising New Zealand pop singer who’s Pure Heroine track “Royals” has been accused of being racist. M.I.A.: established British singer who has often been accused of being racist. Ah, the perfect pair. At least that’s how DJ Mike Biggz sees them, as he’s found flawless harmony between Lorde’s “Royals” and M.I.A.’s classic “Paper Planes”.

Lorde’s voice is a smooth fit over the bouncing, buzzing, ringing sounds of “Paper Planes”. Lyrics like “But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom / Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room / We don’t care, we’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams” sit like serendipity next to “All I wanna do is (BANG BANG BANG BANG!) / And (KKKAAAA CHING!) / And take your money.” Take a listen to “Royal Planes” below (via Gangster Says Relax).
