Last we heard from Washington, D.C. duo GEMS, they were serving up an intoxicating dream-pop potion on “Sinking Stone” — a recipe we praised and dubbed as a cross between Kate Bush and The xx. The two continue their moody and romantic antics, this time with “Medusa”, the lead single off their new EP.
“I used to feel so free, the way we used to be…time got away from me,” enchants Lindsay Pitt, her vocals floating on like bone-chilling but beautiful billows of smoke. She’s backed by an echoing shoegaze backdrop and Clifford John Usher’s deep bellow that often cracks and rattles the still air. Though each of the track’s spare parts seem harmless, when swept together, they make for quite the silent killer.
“Medusa” is off a forthcoming EP of the same name, due out November 12th.
