The inaugural YouTube Music Awards are going down tonight at Pier 36 in New York City, and you can stream them live beginning at 6:00pm EST. With creative direction form Spike Jonze; unscripted hosting from Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts; and performances from Arcade Fire, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler the Creator, the show promises to be far more than your average awards ceremony.

Jonze told Rolling Stone that the warehouse at Pier 36 has been set up with a variety of stages. “We’re going from set to set,” he says, “and in each set we’re making a different live music video. The idea is that most of these songs don’t have music videos, so we’re making them live in front of the audience, sometimes with the audience as participants.” Not only that, but the entire show is unscripted; Schwartzman and Watts weren’t even allowed into writing sessions or rehearsals. “Jason and Reggie will have cue cards with what they’re supposed to say, at least in terms of information, but other than that they aren’t going to have any idea what’s going on,” Jonze adds.

So at the least, this should be interesting to watch them try to pull off. Tune in below via YouTube, and stay tuned for the replay.
