Foster the People announces new album, Supermodel, stream “Coming of Age”

on January 13, 2014, 3:17pm

As 2013 came down to its closing hours, Foster the People squeaked in with a teaser for the follow-up to 2011’s smash debut, Torches. Now, the band has officially announced details of its sophomore album, Supermodel, which will hit stores on March 14th via Columbia Records.

The album is preceded by lead single “Coming Of Age”, which premiered this afternoon on BBC Radio 1. (The song was also debuted during last summer’s US tour). In line with the sweeping synth-rock of bands such as Passion Pit, Grouplove, and fun., the band layers Mark Foster’s fragile harmonies over the rumble of guitars and glitchy keys. Speaking to Rolling Stone earlier this year, Foster described the album as “polarizing,” noting that with this record “I went into it wanting to do something more organic and human, because the first record was so electronic and synthetic.” Foster also told Rolling Stone that he was inspired by recent trips to the Middle East and Africa. “I took from my travels… and put that perspective into the record, so it’s got an interesting mix of things. I’m excited to play it live. It’s a record that’s going to come to life more onstage.”
