Listen: Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s new song, “Robes”, featuring Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis

on January 29, 2014, 12:44pm

Recently, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib pushed back their eagerly-anticipated collaborative album Piñata from February 4th to March 18th. But with that delay comes a brand new album track, “Robes”, featuring Odd Future’s own Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis.

By now, the cohesion between Gibbs’ brooding style and Madlib’s old-school-centric samples has been well documented. But there’s a certain newfound energy abound with the inclusion of Sweatshirt, whose bugged-out, stream-of-consciousness rhymes sound doubly trippy over the fuzzy loop of old blues guitar. Listen in below.

For more sounds, check out “Shame”, “Thuggin”, and “Deeper”. Piñata is also set to feature Raekwon, Scarface, Danny Brown, Joey Bada$$, and Ab Soul, among others.

Gibbs and Madlib have also announced joint tour dates, with more to be revealed in the coming weeks. Consult their tentative schedule below.
