While Youth Lagoon and Beach House use sounds from space for their new material, San Francisco-based electronic producer Holly Herndon is busy sampling another seemingly intangible source: the Internet.
For her latest single, “Chorus”, Herndon pieced together blips of audio taken from her daily online browsing experiences, including clips off YouTube and Skype. The result is an eerie, and yet somehow eye-opening cut that feels alive and personal, despite being born from the cold, sometimes incomprehensible metals and codes of technology and the World Wide Web. Listen in below via its accompanying music video, which further explores Herndon’s Internet habits.
