Listen: Palehound’s great new song “Holiest”

on January 22, 2014, 2:48pm

Palehound is the brainchild of 19-year-old songwriter Ellen Kempner, whose ’90s-indebted hybrid of indie and folk often calls to mind Sadie Dupuis’ own sonic repertoire . (It’s no wonder, either, as Kempner and the Speedy Ortiz frontwoman are close friends, having bonded during a summer performing arts camp. Aww.)

Following Palehound’s debut, October’s Bent Nail EP, is the forthcoming Kitchen” 7-inch, which hits store on February 25th via Exploding In Sound. The A-side is “Holiest”, a blast of warm guitars and impressively rough-hewn melodies. A stunningly infectious track — especially given Kempner’s age – it also features her new bandmates Ben Scherer (guitar), Thom Lombardi (bass), and Maxx Kupperberg (drums). Listen in below.

In support, Kempner & Co. will kick off a months-long tour later this week.
