2014 is undoubtedly going to be a big year for Sampha. The London-based artist placed 4th on the BBC Sound of 2014 Poll and has been steadily dropping music since his memorable appearance on Drake’s Nothing Was The Same. (Hear: “Courtesy” and “Too Much“) Striking when the iron’s scalding, he’s re-released his six-song 2010 collection of recordings, Sundanza, on Bandcamp.
Split between beat-oriented instrumentals and soulful vocal exercises, Sundanza showcases the 25-year-old artist long before his burgeoning fame. However, the sound isn’t up to par, as he notes that his brother accidentally deleted the master files from his computer, leaving them to exist solely as low quality unmastered mp3s. While the offering is listed as “name your price”, all proceeds go straight to the U.K.’s Youth Cancer Trust.
Below, hear Sundanza standout, “Shades” and the rest of the release.
