The Afghan Whigs announce Do to the Beast, their first album in 16 years

on January 27, 2014, 10:24am

When The Afghan Whigs were announced for this year’s Coachella, we speculated why. It’s been nearly two years since the band reunited for an extensive reunion tour and we hadn’t heard from them since their random collaboration with Usher at last year’s SXSW. Turns out they were busy recording a new studio album, their first in 16 years.

Entitled Do to the Beast, the follow-up to 1998’s 1965 will arrive on April 15th. For the release, the Whigs have reunited with Sub Pop Records, who previously released 1990’s Up in It and 1992’s Congregation and Uptown Avondale EP and later put out frontman Greg Dulli’s work with The Twilight Singers and The Gutter Twins.

Below, listen to the Whigs’ recent cover of Frank Ocean’s “LoveCrimes”.
