Listen: Angel Olsen’s devastating new song “White Fire”

on February 07, 2014, 1:40pm

After the fuzzy “Forgiven/Forgotten” and alt-country ballad “Hi-Five”, Angel Olsen returns to her more intimate and folksy roots with “White Fire”. The track, the latest off her forthcoming sophomore album Burn Your Fire for No Witness, might just be the singer-songwriter at her most raw and devastating.

With barely the low hum of a meek guitar to guide her, Olsen’s wandering ruminations trickle forth from her lips, softly and sleepily — as though she’s thought about them for so long, yet been too afraid to open up and feel so vulnerable. “If you still got some light in you, then go before it’s gone,” she advises. Referencing the LP’s title, she continues singing, “Burn your fire for no witnesses, the only way it’s done,” heavy bouts of both tragedy and optimism somehow stuffed into such a small but affective statement. Listen in below.
