Listen: Deleted Scenes’ shape-shifting new single “Songs of Leaving Behind”

on February 27, 2014, 11:34am

Back in October, D.C. art-rockers Deleted Scenes unveiled “Stutter”, a masterful fit of chaos and knee-jerk twists and turns. The quartet’s new track, “Songs of Leaving Behind”, continues to explore the many facets of instability, a central motif of their forthcoming third album Lithium Burn.

Though it’s only a little over four minutes, “Songs of Leaving Behind” travels far and wide — an enthralling and amorphous wander through frazzled dissonance, uplifting serenity, and everything in between. “Will you be around for a lullaby?” frontman Daniel Scheuerman asks quietly, just seconds before the clarity and calmness give way to a tangle of overlapping melodies. Even amidst all the clamor, he later assures, “I will love you ’til the end of time”, his words a faint beacon of hope in a world that sounds on the brink of destruction. Listen in below.

Lithium Burn is due out April 15th via Park the Van/Nevado Records. It was produced by Brian McTear and Jonathan Low (Kurt Vile, The National). “Songs of Leaving Behind” serves as the closing track off the iTunes digital version.
