Listen: Evian Christ’s new song “Waterfall”

on February 27, 2014, 12:22pm

Since inking a publishing deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music back in December, rising UK producer Evian Christ has remained mostly off the radar. (No doubt due to countless games of foosball with Yeezy.) Today, though, he resumes the lead-up to his new EP Waterfall by unveiling its title track.

Whereas “Salt Carousel” was jarring for its frenetic mix of grime and dub, “Waterfall” proves menacing for entirely opposing reasons. By utilizing a much more minimalist approach (i.e. fewer sounds and samples per second), and leaving space for gaps of blank noise, Christ has birthed a track that’s truly terrifying. Still, the terror’s not in the tension generated by scrambled bass and syncopated strings; it’s in the endless uncertainty of what might come next.

The Waterfall EP is due out March 17th via Tri Angle.
