Last summer, Irish singer-songwriter Hozier released Take Me To Church, his blues rock-inspired debut EP. But it wasn’t until October, when he unveiled the video for the EP’s title track, that he would literally rock the world. The powerful clip, which helped shed light on the very real horrors of the violence against Russia’s LGBT community, quickly went viral.
Amidst all the buzz, the rising troubadour returns this week with “From Eden”. A live rendition of the captivating song appeared earlier last year, but this official studio version is leaps and bounds better, polished and primed to showcase Hozier’s strengths, both as a singer and as a songwriter.
“Babe, there’s something tragic about you, something so magic about you, don’t you agree?”, he starts off, his voice potent and piercing in all its weathered and seemingly whiskey-soaked ache. Meanwhile, bluesy guitars drizzle and whimper behind him, a more than fitting melancholy backdrop for this introspective, sentimental man. Listen in below.
