Listen: Owen Pallett’s new songs “On a Path” and “The Riverbed”

on February 28, 2014, 10:16am

Arcade Fire collaborator and Oscar-nominated composer Owen Pallett has unveiled the first two tracks from his new solo album In Conflict, due out May 13th via Domino Records/Secret City.

“The Riverbed” is Pallett’s take on straight-up rock and roll, a frenetic mix of inspired violin plucking, fuzzed-out guitar, and big, wailing harmonies. In contrast, “On a Path” is a sweeping orchestral number that sounds like a more refined and elegant take on 2006’s breakthrough He Poos Clouds.

“The Riverbed” comes accompanied by an equally dramatic music video, directed by Eva Michon and starring Jim Pallett. “On a Path” soundtracks a lyric video. Watch both below.

Pallett’s first full-length effort since 2010′s Heartland, the album was recorded by Mark Lawson at Hotel2Tango and Arcade Fire’s Sonovox Studios in Montreal. Spanning 13 tracks, it features Brian Eno on synth, guitar, and vocals and string arrangements from the Czech FILMharmonic Orchestra.
