Listen: Rick Ross’ new song “Nobody”, a remake of Notorious B.I.G.’s “You’re Nobody (Till Somebody Kills You)”

For his latest single from Mastermind, fur coat aficionado Rick Ross turns the Wayback Machine to 1997 for a remake of Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Death standout “You’re Nobody (Till Somebody Kills You)”.

On one level, the singularly-titled “Nobody” makes use of the same producer (Sean “Diddy” Combs) and the same beat of syrupy drum machines and satiny vocal samples. Deeper than merely recycling elements, though, is Ross’ whole approach and his flow. It’s still mostly that same hoarse, uncomplicated rumble, but with some upticks in cadence and the overall structure of his rhymes, he’s sounds just enough like Biggie to result in a totally touching homage. Listen in below.

Mastermind is due out March 4th via Def Jam. The 16-track effort features collaborations with Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, The Weeknd, Jeezy (“War Ready”), and more.
