Stream: Angel Olsen’s new album Burn Your Fire for No Witness

on February 09, 2014, 11:15pm

Folk/country singer-songwriter Angel Olsen will see the release of her sophomore album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, on February 18th through Jagjaguwar. Now that we’re almost a week away, you can stream the album over at NPR.org.

The follow-up to Half Way Home, Burn Your Fire contains 11 tracks produced John Congleton (The Walkmen, Modest Mouse, Okkervil River). According to press for the release, Olsen “explores a sound familiar, but only widens her vocal range to new expressive heights. She captures both bravery and vulnerability in her war cries bringing the listener closer if they aren’t already sucked into Angel’s crackling fire gaze. Her new album stokes the fire and aggravates the flames inside of Angel releasing an energy and voice not heard before.”

In an interview with Line of Best Fit, Olsen expounded on the evolution of her vocals, noting that “The material was calling for that, I think… I might be singing louder and faster on some songs, and then on other tracks it wasn’t really too different from my older stuff.”  She continued, saying, “It was really more about creating the characters that each song represents. What I wanted to do was to take a little bit of what I’d learned from both of the albums I’d previously done – a little bit of the atmosphere from Strange Cacti, and a little bit of the atmosphere from Half Way Home – and sort of place them together in a sonic environment that I felt suited each individual song.”
