If you’re a pro wrestling fan (and why wouldn’t you be?!), your television options are currently limited toTNA: Impact and the 46 reruns of WWE’s Raw and Smackdown. Fortunately, AMC is here with the hot tag, following up award-winning programs like Mad Men and Breaking Bad with a new show that chronicles Billy Corgan’s Resistance Pro wrestling league. Oh yeah, brother!
As Variety reports, the show is currently listed as “Untitled Billy Corgan Wrestling Project”. According to a description, “Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan pulls back the curtains on the pro-wrestling world as he takes over creative direction for the independent wrestling company Resistance Pro.” Corgan is also listed an executive producer alongside Left/Right, LLC, the same production company who brought us Small Town Security and My Super Sweet 16 Presents: Exiled. I already smell some kind of wonderful crossover.
Run by Corgan and brothers Jacques and Gabe Baron, Resistance Pro regularly holds shows in venues across greater Chicago, including the Excalibur nightclub. Since forming in 2011, the league has welcomed indy wrestling elite like Kevin Steen, Teddy Hart, Raven, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, and The Sheik, among others. For a taste of the action, check out a recent episode of the Web-based Resistance Pro TV.
If the AMC deal comes through, it wouldn’t be the first time Resistance Pro was featured on basic cable. Below, check out their hilarious ad for Chicago furniture store Walter E. Smithe.
When he’s not busy throwing lariats, Corgan will no doubt be hard at work on Pumpkins’ guitar-heavy new albums, Monuments To An Elegy and Day For Night, both of which are due out sometime in 2015.
