Future Islands singer Samuel T. Herring moonlights as a rapper

on March 21, 2014, 2:12pm

If a professional dancing career somehow doesn’t pan out for Future Islands‘ frontman Samuel T. Herring, there’s a good chance he could make it in the entertainment biz as an emcee.

As SPIN points out, a few months ago Herring — under his rap pseudonym Hemlock Ernst — recorded a VHS clip for hip-hop video purveyors Time Spent. And what resulted is not some typical gaudy set of visuals; instead, the tape shows Herring Ernst coolly freestyling about his life from the comforts of a humble bedroom. Check it out below.

For more of Hemlock Ernst’s flow, watch this live video of him performing in LA last spring:

Meanwhile, Future Islands’ new album, Singles, arrives next week on March 25th via 4AD. Stream it here.
