After making his debut co-writing and co-producing Beyoncé’s excellent self-titled album, Brooklyn-based producer Boots has struck out on his own. In the last few months alone, he’s dropped a string of promising songs, including “Atom”, “Dust”, “Howl”, and the Kelela-assisted “Autumn (Lude 1)”. Today, he continues his hot streak with “Ride Ride Ride”, a track that showcases his animated yet soulful voice.
Backed by somber piano chords and his trademark bass-heavy atmospherics, Boots’ ever-evolving croon manages to succeed both when it soars loudly during the chorus and quietly coos throughout the verses. According to SPIN, the track features subtle back-up vocals from Sia and will be appear on his forthcoming debut mixtape. Listen in below.
Update: Boots has dropped a second track today, “Arlight”. The song sees the enigmatic producer and songwriter rapping instead of singing over a hypnotic groove. Listen to that below too.
