Listen: D’Angelo covers Al Green’s “I’m Glad You’re Mine”

on March 20, 2014, 10:10pm

Next week, D’Angelo will emerge from his latest hibernation with a new album of rare, live recordings dubbed Live at the Jazz Cafe, London: The Complete Show.

The 12-track collection features six songs off a 1996 Japan-only live EP, plus previously unreleased recordings from D’Angelo’s eponymous London gig on September 14th, 1995. Among the handful of rarities is a silky re-imagining of Al Green’I’m Still In Love With You standout “I’m Glad You’re Mine”.

“Let’s see if y’all remember this one,” he says to the audience before launching into the soulful ballad. Take a listen to the cover below (via Billboard).

Here’s the original for full comparison:

Jazz Cafe, London is due out on March 25th via Virgin/UMe.
