Back in 2012, Hundred Visions staked their claim in Austin’s post-punk scene with Permanent Basement, an LP rife with garage-honed guitar chops and chugging percussion. Now, they’re looking to expand their territory with their sophomore LP, Spite, and new track “Thanks for Nothing” indicates they’re coming full force.
A chest-thumping (or fist-raising, whichever you’d prefer) rhythm beats a path and leads some quick-fingered guitar work through dynamic peaks and valleys. There’s a psychedelic lean in some of those dips, but a heavy dose of NYC proto-punk in Wes Turner’s bass and Eric Loftis’ drums keeps things far from hazy. All the while, lead singer Ben Maddox lets loose with his indignant howl, proclaiming defiantly, “I’m sick but, God damn, I’m not dead.” Take a listen below.
Spite is expected out in the next few months. In the meantime, Hundred Visions has just hit the road with Okkervil River. See those dates below.
