Back in October, James Blake and Chance the Rapper teamed up for a remix of Blake’s Overgrown standout “Life Round Here”. The rousing number began a friendship that reportedly led to the pair moving in together at Blake’s home in Los Angeles. But it wasn’t a symbiotic relationship from the very start. Today, Chance has shared the “OG idea for me and James’ first collaboration” with a track entitled “Save Yourself First”.

Compared to the hyped-up final product, Chance’s original cut is much more relaxed, toying with the vocal delivery he premiered on his cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You” as well as his recent untitled track with fellow Chicago-native Jeremih. According to Chance, Blake never liked the actual verse, so it’s easy to see why they decided to go in a different direction. Listen in below.
