If you’re inclined to believe the mythos of Back To The Future II , we’re just about a year’s away from owning functioning hoverboards. While the Honda in my driveway indicates otherwise, that glorious future may actually be upon us (and a whole year early to boot). Some Internet tricksters have made an incredibly elaborate advertisement for the futuristic boards, employing Moby, Terrell Owens, Tony Hawk, ScHoolboy Q, Best Coast, and even Christopher Lloyd —”Doc” Brown— himself to try them out.
In the video, Lloyd pulls up in a DeLorean, Tony Hawk alleges most professional skateboarders started skating because of the film series, Moby’s baffled by the technology, and Beth Cosentino from Best Coast provides a jingle.
Though it’s obviously another entry in the vast wasteland of “bullshit on the internet”, the painstaking attention to detail and celebrity cameos make it at least very entertaining. To make the joke even more elaborate, the pranksters have created a passable website for fake company HuvrTech, where they say the boards will be available by December 2014. While they claim that the hoverboards have, “more technology in them than the satellites we sent up to space in 2010”, we claim that this video is probably from Funny Or Die or worse, Jimmy Kimmel Live. Watch it below.
Music in the video was provided by Chromeo, Best Coast, John Saunders, and Zoo Brother.
