21-year-old found dead at Ultra Music Festival

on April 01, 2014, 3:09pm

According to the Miami New Times, a 21-year-old attendee of last weekend’s Ultra Music Festival was found dead inside his car on Saturday night. Adonis Escoto, a local resident of Miami, began to feel sick while attending the festival on Saturday, his aunt told Miami New Times. Thinking he was drunk, Escoto’s friends took him to a vehicle to sober up and then re-entered the festival. Upon returning to the car several hours later, his friends found him dead.

Escoto’s aunt maintains that Escoto did not use drugs. Instead, she believes someone may have put something in his drink.

However, according to NBC Miami, Miami Police have not ruled out drugs as the cause of death. “We are still looking into that,” Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa said at a press conference. “The autopsy is yet to be completed and the toxicology will take probably a few months.

News of Escoto’s death should only fuel the controversy that has engulfed Ultra in recent days. On Friday, a security guard was nearly trampled to death after a mob of people broke through a festival gate. Over the entire course of the weekend, 76 festival-goers were arrested, 28 of them for felonies, and 118 others were treated by paramedics. Miami’s Mayor, Tomás Regalado, has since called for an end to Ultra and plans to introduce a resolution that would deny further installments of the festival in the city.

In 2013, a 20-year-old attendee died of a drug overdose during Ultra, while a 23-year-old nearly died after accidentally drinking water spiked with anti-freeze.
