Andrew Bird announces U.S. tour with his new band Hands of Glory

on April 22, 2014, 8:30pm

Andrew Bird has been playing shows backed by folk guitarist Tift Merritt, stand-up bassist Alan Hampton, and others for a few years now. This summer, however, the whistling violinist is making it official by bringing Merritt, Hampton, drummer Kevin O’Donnell (of Bird’s old band Bowl of Fire), and pedal steel guitarist Eric Heywood on the road as his new backing band, Hands of Glory.

Eponymously named after Bird’s 2012 companion album to Break it Yourselfthe band is described as “an old timey acoustic configuration” (via Brooklyn Vegan). Their first full tour together kicks off with a two-night stint at D.C.’s Lincoln Theater, and includes stops at Bonnaroo, Toronto’s Urban Roots Fest, and New York’s Summerstage series.
