Craig Ferguson will end his tenure as host of the Late Late Show at the end of 2014.
The news comes after CBS chose to hire Stephen Colbert as the new host of the Late Show, despite there being a clause in Ferguson’s contract that entitled him to be David Letterman’s successor.
Ferguson said in a statement, “CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are ‘consciously uncoupling,’ but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much,” referring to two favorite props on the show.
As host of the Late Late Show, Ferguson hasn’t shined a spotlight on music as much as Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, or Letterman have on their respective late-night shows. If someone such as Chelsea Handler were to be tapped as Ferguson’s replacement, you can probably expect that to change.
