Jack White has conjured up another elaborate stunt for Record Store Day 2014. The Third Man Records head previously released his new single via 1,000 helium balloons and invented the triple decker vinyl record; now, he’s announced the World’s Fastest Released Record.
On April 19th, White will take the stage at Third Man HQ in Nashville and record his new single “Lazaretto” direct-to-acetate. The masters will then be rushed over to United Record Pressing, who will begin pressing 45s of the single, while the sleeves will be printed with photographs taken from the show. The finished records will be transported back to Third Man, where they will be sold that same day. As a press release notes, “As long as there are fans in line waiting to buy the single, United will continue to press and deliver them to Third Man to sell. Even if it takes all day.”
Tickets to White’s performance will be available exclusively to members of Third Man Records’ Vault, however, anyone can purchase the record once it’s pressed. It will only be available at Third Man on Record Store Day, though. After that, you’ll have to scour eBay.
Third Man’s Record Store festivities also include a performance by Grand Rapids garage rock band Whirlwind Heat, who will reunite for the first time since 2006. Third Man is also reissuing their 2003 LP Do Rabbits Wonder? for RSD.
In released news, White will release his sophomore solo LP Lazaretto on June 10th via Third Man. Listen to the album track “High Ball Stepper” below.
